Turaco Treetops Lodge

Turaco Treetops lodge, this is a midrange lodge built on the border of Kibale Forest, on a beautiful piece of land with a splendid view of Kibale Forest and the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains. The lodge is 6 Km from Kanyanchu visitor center next to Bigodi wetland sanctuary. It was a former Chimp Nest lodge, but currently renovated and upgraded.
As the name implies, Chimps’ Nest is often visited by monkeys, chimps, and forest elephants. The lodge is situated near Nyabubale, a small village between Nkingo and Bigodi which is a 6 km away from Kanyanchu tourist center.
Turaco Treetops lodge is a true birder’s paradise, virtually all 350 bird species of Kibale Forest and the bordering Bigodi Swamps can be observed on the premises. Explore our private walking trails through the forest and witness it all for yourself. They also offer night walks with high chances of seeing bush babies and the other animals of the night.
The lodge is an excellent starting point for day trips to the crater lakes, Semuliki National Park, Semliki Wildlife Reserve and Rwenzori Mountains.

A visit to Turaco Treetops lodge means you will have a good and comfortable stay in their original and cosy self-contained cottages, Family Cottage, self-contained Tree Houses, dormitories and on our private campsite. All cottages are positioned to guarantee optimal privacy. From your private balcony you can enjoy the wildlife and the magnificent view of Kibale Forest, with the surrounding sounds of birds, monkeys, chimps and elephants.
People staying at Treetop lodge can choose between three different types of accommodation:
– Self-contained cottages, all with a splendid view
– Self contained budget rooms
– Family Cottage for 4-6 people near the restaurant

COTTAGES

Their cottages are situated on a hill, with a private and splendid view of Kibale Forest and the Rwenzori Mountains. From your private balcony you can enjoy the wildlife, with the surrounding sounds of birds, monkeys, chimps, and elephants.
The bathroom is outside. It is completely closed off but has an open roof. Your privacy is guaranteed so you can have the ultimate experience of freedom in the middle of nature.
It’s a one to five minutes’ walk from the restaurant to the cottages depending which cottage you stay in (7 in total).

FAMILY COTTAGE

The family cottage is built near the restaurant, on a hill. This place is ideal for people with children or for people who want to be near the restaurant. Just like all the other cottages this cottage has a lot of privacy and is in the bush, surrounded by various colorful birds and wildlife.
The cottage holds two bedrooms with flexible beds which can be either twins or doubles. There is space for one extra bed each bedroom. There is a lockable door in between the two rooms.
This cottage also has a large balcony in the front with a view on the forest and the Rwenzori mountains and two complete bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets.
Therefore the family cottage can also be used as 2 separate (complete) cottages. For example for friends who want to have their privacy, but also want to be near each other.
Treetop lodge cares about preserving the environment and natural resources; local people built it using natural materials and the electricity we use is solar powered. All this makes Treetop lodge an eco-friendly lodge.

Activities include chimp trekking, birdwatching, night walks, nature walks through Kibale Forest or the Bigodi Swamp area, mountain biking, visiting the local people and visiting one of the crater lakes or go for a swim.

From our cozy restaurant on top of the hill, everybody will have a splendid view of the jungle and the Rwenzori Mountains. Enjoy the sounds of the jungle and the beautiful sunset while eating a tasteful meal from our highly praised kitchen.

Their restaurant serves tasty meals in a warm and inviting environment with friendly service. Their friendly and helpful staff members are all locals. They buy almost all of their supplies and food from the surrounding villages. You’re welcome to try their local honey, peanut butter, and filtered coffee.

Their restaurant serves a variety of international dishes. The kitchen normally opens at 7 am and closes at 9 pm, the bar opens at 10am and closes at 10pm. The bar serves cold drinks from a solar powered fridge; we do not have ice cubes.
